Ideas for a satisfying spring break with friends

Spring break has officially ended. While we’ve have been back to the grind of school, work and responsibilities for a couple days now, I thought I’d share some of my experiences from one of the best vacations I’ve ever had. My friends and I got in the car and drove a little over seven hours straight south to Gulf Shores, Ala.

The stereotypical college spring break experience involves drinking, partying and other not-so-Lipscomb appropriate activities. At the risk of sounding like a grandma in disguise as an 18-year-old, I’m here to offer alternative ideas that made for one of the best spring break trips ever.

Karaoke!

Find a restaurant near you that offers karaoke! You’re sure to have a great time and meet new people. The night my group participated was by far our favorite night of the trip. The best part – all the other people there were most likely retired and over 65. They loved it and so did we!

Try local restaurants and dives

Drive around until you come across a locally owned place to get food or try out one you’ve heard of before but never been to. These dives are often the best food around, no matter where you vacation! We did this every night and had great experiences all around.

Find a beach

Freshwater, saltwater, it doesn’t matter! Find the closest beach you can get to and go! Relax and lie on the shore. Regardless of the weather, you’re sure to enjoy your time breathing deeply away from work and school.

Road trip

You must do this at least once during your college years, and there’s no better time than spring break! Get in a car with friends and drive. Explore. This quintessential bonding experience will bring you and the people you’re with closer together. (But really. They will be physically closer to you for any number of hours. You will bond.) You’ll learn about each other’s tastes in music and come back with more than a few funny stories about the trip.

Try something new

Get out of your comfort zone, whatever that means for you. For me, it was trying seafood (again!) even though I’ve always strongly disliked it. Surprisingly, I love salmon! Check out my previous post for more on adventuring with friends.

How was your spring break? What did you do and what was your favorite part? From relaxing at home to mission trips abroad, I know there were many options! Share your story in the comments below.
